Association between cartilage biomarker level and functional outcome in knee osteoarthritis patients receiving dextrose prolotherapy: a cross-sectional study

چکیده
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a degenerative joint disease with relatively high prevalence globally and one of the leading causes disability in elderly population. Dextrose prolotherapy (DPT) has been proven effective improving functional outcomes knee osteoarthritis. The effect hypertonic dextrose on cartilage biomarkers not evaluated. Purpose: To evaluate association between biomarker changes clinical among patients KOA who received (DPT). Patients methods: This study was conducted cross-sectional design. Twenty-six participants DPT at weeks 1, 5, 9. Our primary measures were urinary c-terminal telopeptides type II collagen (uCTX-II), measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), WOMAC score, baseline week 12. Results: There significant improvements all subscales uCTX-II levels after DPT. no correlation score as outcome indicator (p > 0.05), but there are positive correlations pain, functional, total uCTX-II. Conclusion: may reduce degradation improve osteoarthritic knees. Significant drops can affect outcomes, especially scores.

Periarticular dextrose prolotherapy instead of intra-articular injection for pain and functional improvement in knee osteoarthritis
BACKGROUND Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease that can lead to painful and dysfunctional joints. Prolotherapy involves using injections to produce functional restoration of the soft tissues of the joint. Intra-articular injections are controversial because of the introduction of needles into the articular capsule. OBJECTIVES To compare the effect of periarticular versus intra-artic...
متن کاملQualitative Assessment of Patients Receiving Prolotherapy for Knee Osteoarthritis in a Multimethod Study.
OBJECTIVE Randomized and open-label studies assessing prolotherapy for knee osteoarthritis have found quantitative improvement on the validated Western Ontario McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) compared with baseline status and control therapies. This study assessed the qualitative response of participants receiving prolotherapy, an injection-based complementary treatment for sym...
متن کاملThe Effects of Prolotherapy With Hypertonic Dextrose Versus Prolozone (Intraarticular Ozone) in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis
BACKGROUND Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common disabling disease. Limited studies have demonstrated that prolotherapy with dextrose or with prolozone can be helpful in the treatment of patients with KOA. OBJECTIVES In the current study, we compared the results between these two treatment methods. PATIENTS AND METHODS In the current randomized clinical trial, 80 patients with mild to moder...
متن کاملThe association between gout and radiographic hand, knee and foot osteoarthritis: a cross-sectional study.
BACKGROUND Gout is the most common type of inflammatory arthritis and is largely managed in primary care. It classically affects the first metatarsophalangeal joint and distal peripheral joints, whereas the axial joints are typically spared. The reason for this particular distribution is not well understood, however, it has been suggested that osteoarthritis (OA) may be the key factor. One hypo...

BACKGROUND Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent chronic joint disease in China. The aim of this study was to examine the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and knee OA in a population-based Chinese study. METHODS Data included in this analysis is from a cross-sectional study, i.e., the Xiangya Hospital Health Management Center Study. MetS was diagnosed according to the criteri...
